The Elephant Left The Room

Writing has become my therapy, my fun, and my sense of purpose since becoming a full-time carer. Alongside finishing my musical, I still find joy in writing plays - and this is one I plan to enter into a writing competition next year.

PLAY SYNOPSIS

The play may be performed either as a full two-act production or as a shortened 30-minute version.

When spirited ninety-year-old Gilly begins to forget, long-held fears and pride start to fall away - and Clare, her daughter releases years of resentment. Together, they discover unexpected joy, laughter, and a bond deeper than either could have imagined.

But when Gilly collapses one night, Clare is faced with an unbearable choice: call for help and risk the impersonal, overwhelmed care system stepping in, or hold her mother close and let her slip away peacefully.

The Elephant Left the Room is a tender, thought-provoking exploration of love, loss, and the freedom that can be found in forgetting. It asks what it truly means to care for someone else while caring for yourself - and challenges us to consider: what would I want if the roles were reversed?
